For many generations, the Bochum police puppet theater has been an integral part of road safety education for pre-school children in Bochum, Herne and Witten.
Teaching the youngest children about the dangers of road traffic in a playful way is not only the goal, but also a vocation for the colleagues.
A special performance yesterday, September 7, was attended by a kindergarten group as well as Police President Jörg Lukat and high-ranking representatives from the NRW Ministry of the Interior, the NRW State Office for Education and Training, the local authorities and the transport companies BoGeStra and HCR, who were able to see the fascination of the puppet show for themselves.
The current stage play is called "Halt! Stop!". Every year, the squirrel "Elli", the rat "Ratze" and of course the kerb "Stoppi" teach over 5,000 invited children the right way to behave in traffic with a lot of humor, but also with a child-friendly seriousness.
Police Commissioner Jörg Lukat thanked all those involved in traffic accident prevention/victim protection and especially the transport companies who support the police in transporting the children safely from the children's garden to the puppet theater.
We look forward to many more years and the future plays of the puppet theater and there are certainly parents today who can talk to their children about their visit "back then" to the police puppet theater.
