On Friday, May 31, 2024, police officer Rouven Laur was attacked with a knife by a 25-year-old Afghan in Mannheim. After emergency surgery, he was placed in an induced coma, but succumbed to his serious injuries on June 2.
An incident that also left us at the district police authority stunned and deeply saddened. It was therefore natural for us to take part in a minute's silence initiated by the Mannheim police.
On Friday, June 7, 2024, at 11:34 a.m., exactly one week after the crime, numerous colleagues came together to pause for a moment and remember Rouven.
As head of the Mettmann district police authority, District Councillor Thomas Hendele was of course also present and said a few introductory words:
"A young police officer who bravely intervened to save the lives of others had to pay for his actions with his own life. That is intolerable. Rouven died in the line of duty for our safety - and even though we didn't know him personally, he is #oneofus. As a blue light family, we stand firmly by the side of our colleagues from Mannheim."
